José Miguel Covarrubias Duclaud (22 November 1904 — 4 Februari 1957) adlah seorang pelukis karikaturis, ilustrator, etnolog, dan sejarawan seni berkebangsaan Meksiko. Bersama dengan Matthew W. Stirling dari Amerika Serikat, ia menemukan sisa peradaban Olmek.[1]
Covarrubias dikenal akan analisisnya tentang seni Mesoamerika Pra-Kolumbus, terutama Olmek, dan teori difusi budaya Meksiko di utara, khususnya kebudayaan Mississipi penduduk asli Amerika Serikat. Analisisnya tentang ikonografi menghasilkan pernyataan bahwa Olmek telah mendahului Era Klasik Mesoamerika, sebelum akhirnya dipastikan dengan bukti arkeologi.
Minat Covarrubias terhadap antropologi melampaui seni dan benua tempatnya tinggal. Ia menulis etnografi "Island of Bali" secara menyeluruh. Ia membagikan apresiasinya terhadap kebudayaan asing melalui karya-karyanya.
Salah satu karyanya berjudul Empat Gadis Bali dengan Sajen dibeli oleh Sukarno pada era 1950an, akan tetapi dalam buku koleksi Presiden Sukarno, namanya tertulis “Couangrukias”.[2]
