Feel My Voice (Italian: Non abbiam bisogno di parole) is a 2026 Italian coming-of-age musical comedy-drama film directed by Luca Ribuoli.[2][3] It is a remake of the French film La Famille Bélier (2014),[4] which also inspired the American adaptation CODA (2021).[5][6]
Plot
edit16 y.o. Eletta Musso is the only hearing child of deaf parents, Caterina and Alessandro. They live with her brother Francesco on their donkey farm. Every day, Eletta helps them communicate with the world.
Eletta, starts high school, joining chorus like Marco. Everyone must audition by singing their name. After the teacher Giuliana rejects Eletta's new friend Martina, Eletta also starts to leave, but is encouraged to stay.
Martina accompanies Eletta home, and immediately connects with Francesco. As she uses sign language with them, the family invites her to dinner. Afterwards, Francesco drives her home.
In chorus, Giuliana motivates the extremely shy Eletta to sing out like the others. Then, upset, she bolts. Afterwards, Eletta returns for her bag. Encouraging Marco's and her participation, Giuliana suggestS they prepare a duet for course end.
That evening, the televised mayor's reelecion speech angers Alessandro, as big changes proposed include removing donkey farms for other endeavors. The farmer declares he will run against him, calling for the whole family's support. Martina and Francesco design Alessandro's campaign web page. Then together everyone registers Alessandro's candidacy.
In class, Giuliana observes Eletta and Marco's unease singing their duet. When they try with their arms locked, they still cannot make eye contact. Giuliana insists they practice the love song, so they exchange numbers upon leaving.
Marco goes to Eletta's farm to practice while her parents are on election business. Neither wants to sing into the other's eyes, so they sing back-to-back. Marco's phone dies, so they sing it acapella, face-to-face and moving. Almost kissing, Alessandro interrupts farting, something he does to annoy her. Downstairs, everyone gives Marco crap, embarrassing Eletta, so she hurries him out.
At school, Eletta overhears students mocking Alessandro's farting and realizes Marco told everyone. She punches him, calling him an asshole. Later in chorus, Eletta sings louder than ever, obviously directed at Marco, who leaves.
Afterwards, Giuliana encourages Eletta to pursue a musical career at the International Singing Academy in Turin, which would require her moving. Initially refusing, Francesco convinces her to follow her dream. His is to transform the working farm into an educational space.
Eletta starts intensive practice for the official audition at Giuliana's. Expecting Marco to be there, Giuliana reveals he is not coming. Eletta and Martina find him at an MMA fight, where she tries to convince her muse to help her prepare. However, Marco rejects her proposal, shoving her.
Eletta's parents have organized an impromptu television interview, expecting Eletta to be their interpreter. She is frustrated with them, as Giuliana is expecting her. Hours later, the interview is still unfinished, so Eletta starts to get text messages. She pretends her boyfriend is upset for missing their date. After a big argument with Alessandro, he sends her off as Francesco will aid them.
Eletta bikes to Giuliana's in a downpour, but Giuliana refuses to open the door. Returning home, Catarina demands she apologize to Alessandro. There is a big argument, and Francesco defends her. Eletta finally reveals Giuliana has been preparing her for the professional singing school audition in Turin. Everyone leaves the table frustrated, with Catarina still pushing Eletta around.
Eletta goes to Giuliana's and quits. Later, in town with Catarina at the hairdresser's, they see Giuliana. The women argue over Eletta. Giuliana tells her she must choose what is best for herself, and no one else.
Marco returns to school, so Eletta and Giuliana challenge him to participate in the singing program. Performing the duo with her parents watching, they finally watch others' reactions to her singing. Giuliana approaches the family, praising Eletta and begging them to let her do the audition the next morning. She asks this using sign language, so they pay attention. After thanking her, they turn their backs and leave.
Later, Alessandro asks Eletta to sing while he feels her voicebox. Early the next morning he wakes her, telling her to dress for the 10:00 audition in Turin. The whole family heads there, while Marco wakes Giuliana to follow.
Everyone arrives late, Eletta almost has to do the song acapella, but Giuliana arrives in time. With everyone's support, Eletta finds her voice, gets through the audition and wins her spot in the school.

Production
editDirected by Luca Ribuoli, who also wrote the screenplay with Cristiana Farina,[2] the film is produced by Our Films and PiperFilm in collaboration with Circle One.[7][8] Initially planned with the title Te lo leggo negli occhi,[9] the film was later titled Non abbiam bisogno di parole, taking inspiration from the song of the same name by Ron (1992).[10][11]
Sarah Toscano was cast as the titular character,[12] making her acting debut, and actors Serena Rossi, Emilio Insolera, Carola Insolera, Antonio Iorillo, Alessandro Parigi and Asia Corvino.[13][14]
Filming
editFilmed from May 15 to 20 June 2025 for a total of six weeks,[9] the shoot took place in Turin,[15] Camagna Monferrato, Rivalba,[16] and in some municipalities in the province of Alessandria, in particular Lu and Vignale Monferrato.[17][18]
Distribution
editFollowing the trailer's release on 5 March 2026,[19] the film was presented at a press conference on 30 March at the Gerolamo Theater in Milan, attended by the cast and director.[20][21] It was then released on 3 April via Netflix.[22][23]
Soundtrack
editThe soundtrack, composed and curated by Corrado Carosio and Pierangelo Fornaro,[10][24] features the previously unreleased song "Atlantide", written and performed by Sarah Toscano herself and released on 3 April 2026, coinciding with the film's release.[25][26]
Reception
editCritical response
editThe film received mixed reviews from film critics, who did not fully appreciate the directorial choices and screenplay adaptation, while giving praise to the acting skills of Sarah Toscano, Serena Rossi, Emilio Insolera and Carola Insolera.[27][28] It became the most viewed film on Netflix in the first 24 hours of its release.[29]
Damiano Panattoni of Movieplayer.it states that the remake "cracks under the streaming standard, which winks at generalist prime time TV, then becomes stuck in a barely sketched social context".[30] Lorenzo Ciofani of Cinematografo calls the film "a broad and popular dramedy that speaks primarily to a general audience," believing that, although "the narrative never breaks the mold of predictability," it is "honest and empathetic, suspended between good action and a touch of social cinema".[6]
