Etymology

edit

The name Caddon, recorded as Kaledene in 1296,[1] has a Brittonic origin.[1] The second part of the name is the nominal or locative suffix -onฤ.[1] The first element may be *calet,[1] which survives in Welsh as caled meaning "hard".[1] An initial element of cad meaning "a battle",[1] is also a possibility.[1]
