"Crying in the Chapel" (Tangisan di Kapel) adalah sebuah lagu yang ditulis oleh Artie Glenn untuk putranya Darrell untuk dinyanyikan. Darrell merekamnya saat masih di SMA pada 1953, bersama dengan band Artie, Rhythm Riders. Lagu tersebut ditolak oleh Hill and Range Songs dan Acuff-Rose Music. Lagu tersebut kemudian dipublikasikan oleh Valley Publishers yang juga merilis singel yang menampilkan Darrell Glenn. Karya tersebut menjadi hit lokal dan kemudian seluruh negeri. Versi asli dari lagu tersebut (Valley 105) dikeluarkan pada Mei 1953.[2] [3] Lagu tersebut menjadi salah satu lagu tahun 1953 yang paling banyak di-cover. Rekaman asli Darrell Glenn meraih peringkat nomor satu di tangga lagu Cash Box (di mana seluruh versi diamalgasikan) dan peringkat nomor enam di Billboard. Versi asli Darrell Glenn juga menjadi hit nomor enam di tangga singel pop Billboard dan nomor empat di tangga lagu country dan barat Billboard, versi Rex Allen meraih nomor delapan, versi Ella Fitzgerald meraih nomor 15, dan versi Art Lund meraih nomor 23.[4]

Sebuah rekaman buatan June Valli dengan orkestra yang dipimpin oleh Joe Reisman dibuat di New York City pada 11 Juni 1953. Karya tersebut dirilis oleh RCA Victor Records dengan nomor katalog 20-5368 (di AS)[5] dan oleh EMI pada label His Master's Voice dengan nomor katalog HR 10007, N 14105 dan CS 14. Ini adalah versi pop tersukses di tangga lagu Billboard, mencapai peringkat nomor empat setelah berada di tangga lagu selama 17 pekan pada 1 Agustus 1953.
