Hukum Yerkes–Dodson adalah keterkaitan empiris antara stres dengan performa. Hukum ini pertama kali dikembangkan oleh psikolog Robert M. Yerkes dan John Dillingham Dodson pada tahun 1908.[1] Menurut hukum ini, performa akan meningkat seiring dengan peningkatan gairah fisiologis atau kejiwaan, tetapi hanya sampai pada titik tertentu. Jika tingkat kegairahan terlalu tinggi, performa akan berkurang. Proses ini sering kali digambarkan dengan grafik yang berbentuk seperti lonceng.[2] Namun, karena tugas yang dilakukan oleh setiap orang bisa berbeda, bentuk grafik Yerkes-Dodson bisa bermacam-macam.[3]
Walaupun hasil berbagai penelitian telah memastikan bahwa memang ada korelasi antara stres dengan performa (seperti yang dipastikan oleh Broadhurst (1959),[4] Duffy (1957),[5] dan Anderson (1988)[6]), tetapi penyebabnya sendiri masih belum diketahui secara pasti.[7]
