Justicia adalah genus tumbuhan berbunga dalam keluarga Acanthaceae. Ia adalah genus terbesar dalam keluarga, dengan lebih daripada 900 spesies yang diterima. [2] Mereka berasal dari daerah tropis hingga daerah beriklim hangat di Amerika, India, dan Afrika. Genus ini menjadi inang bagi banyak spesies kupu-kupu, seperti Anartia fatima. Nama umum termasuk tanaman kelayu atau gandarusa, yang terakhir dari bunga majemuknya, yang pada beberapa spesies menyerupai udang. Nama generiknya menghormati ahli hortikultura Skotlandia James Justice (1698–1763). [3] Mereka berkerabat dekat dengan Pachystachys. [4]

Mereka adalah tanaman tahunan dan semak yang selalu hijau dengan daun yang sering berurat kuat, tetapi mereka terutama dibudidayakan karena bunganya yang berbentuk tabung dan mencolok dalam nuansa putih, krem, kuning, oranye, ungu, atau merah muda. Kecuali J. americana L., mereka tidak kuat di bawah 7 °C (45 °F), jadi harus ditanam di bawah kaca di daerah rawan embun beku. [5]
