Komposisi
suntingTerdengar sebagai lagu sakit cinta John Lennon untuk Yoko Ono,[1] Paul McCartney menerjemahkannya sebagai "permohonan sejati", dimana John berkata kepada Yoko, "saya benar-benar keluar batas pada hal ini. Saya benar-benar membiarkan kerapuhan saya terlihat, jadi kamu tidak boleh membuat saya terpuruk."[2] Ciri khas lagu ini diperkaya dengan vokal John Lennon yang sampai berteriak, yang terus berlanjut di albumnya pada tahun berikutnya, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.[3]

suntingBerbagai versi "Don't Let Me Down" direkam semasa pengerjaan album Get Back (Let It Be). Versi yang direkam pada tanggal 28 Januari 1969 dirilis sebagai sisi-B singel "Get Back", yang juga direkam pada hari yang sama.[4] "Get Back" mencapai posisi pertama dan "Don't Let Me Down" masuk urutan ke-35 di Billboard Hot 100 Amerika Serikat.[5]
The Beatles membawakan "Don't Let Me Down" 2 kali dalam konser atap gedung tanggal 30 Januari 1969, yang dimasukkan ke dalam film Let It Be (sutradara:Michael Lindsay-Hogg).[6] Ketika proyek "Get Back" digarap lagi, Phil Spector menghapus "Don't Let Me Down" dari album Let It Be.[7]
Versi sisi-B lagu ini dimasukkan ke dalam album kompilasi Hey Jude, 1967-1970 dan Past Masters Volume 2. Versi yang sama juga digunakan sebagai soundtrack dokumenter tahun 1988, Imagine: John Lennon.
Pada November 2003, rekaman edit dari 2 versi atap gedung dimasukkan dalam Let It Be... Naked.[3]
