Richard Semler "Dick" Barthelmess (9 Mei 1895 – 17 Agustus 1963) adalah seorang aktor film Amerika. Ia dinominasikan pada Academy Award untuk Aktor Terbaik pada 1928.
Kehidupan awal
suntingBarthelmess lahir di New York City pada 1895 sebagai putra dari Caroline Harris, seorang aktris panggung,[1] dan Alfred W. Barthelmess.[2] Ayahnya meninggal ketika ia baru berusia satu tahun.[3] Bersama dengan ibunya, ia dibesarkan di dunia teater. Ia dididik di Akademi Militer Sungai Hudson di Nyack dan Trinity College di Hartford, Connecticut. Ia beberapa kali akting di kolese dan produksi amatir lainnya. Pada 1919, ia menjalani lima tahun dalam eksperiensi perusahaan stok.[4]

Kematian
suntingBarthelmess meninggal karena kanker pada 1963, pada usia 68 tahun, dan diistirahatkan di Pemakaman Ferncliff dan Mausoleum di Hartsdale, New York.
Pernikahan dan keluarga
suntingIa menikah dengan Mary Hay, seorang bintang panggung dan layar lebar. Mereka memiliki satu anak, Mary Barthelmess, sebelum bercerai.[6]
Pada 1927, Barthelmess bertunangan dengan Katherine Young Wilson, seorang aktris Broadway.[7][8] Namun, pertunangan tersebut dihentikan, kemungkinan karena hubungannya pada waktu itu dengan jurnalis Adela Rogers St. Johns.[9]
Pada 1928 Barthelmess menikah dengan Jessica Stewart Sargent (1900-1965). Ia kemudian mengangkat putranya Stewart dari pernikahan sebelumnya.
Warisan
sunting- Barthelmess adalah seorang pendiri dari Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.[10]
- Karena jasa-jasanya sebagai seorang aktor, Richard Barthelmess dianugerahi sebuah bintang di Hollywood Walk of Fame.
