Walter Bagehot (/หˆbรฆdส’ษ™t/ 3 Februari 1826ย โ€“ย 24 Maret 1877) adalah seorang jurnalis, pengusaha, dan esais Inggris, yang menulis tentang pemerintahan, ekonomi dan kesusastraan.

Kehidupan

Bagehot lahir di Langport, Somerset, Inggris, pada 3 Februari 1826. Ayahnya, Thomas Watson Bagehot, adalah direktur managing dan wakil ketua Stuckey's Banking Company. Ia masuk University College London (UCL), di mana ia belajar matematika, dan pada 1848 meraih gelar master dalam bidang filsafat moral.[1]

Pada 1858, Bagehot menikahi Elizabeth (Eliza) Wilson (1832โ€“1921), yang ayahnya, James Wilson, merupakan pendiri dan pemilik The Economist; pasangan tersebut hidup bahagia sampai Bagehot wafat pada usia 51 tahun, namun tak memiliki anak.[2] Kumpulan surat cinta mereka diterbitkan pada 1933.[3]
