Matthew Rhys Evans (/riหs/; lahir 4 November 1974) merupakan seorang aktor Wales. Ia dikenal sebagai aktor dalam serial televisi Brothers & Sisters (2006โ€“2011) dan The Americans (2013โ€“2018). Ia dikenal sebagai aktor dalam film The Edge of Love (2008), The Post (2017) dan A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019).

Matthew Rhys lahir di Cardiff, Wales, pada tanggal 4 November 1974.[2] Bahasa pertamanya adalah bahasa Wales.[3] Ia besar di Cardiff dan bersekolah di sekolah menengah Welsh, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Melin Gruffydd di Whitchurch, Cardiff, dan Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf di Llandaff North, Cardiff. Pada tahun 1993, ia mendapatkan Beasiswa Patricia Rothermere.[4]

Pada usia 17 tahun, setelah berperan sebagai Elvis Presley di musikal sekolah, ia menempuh pendidikan tinggi di Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) di London. Kakaknya, Rachel, yang saat ini menjadi pembawa berita BBC, juga hadir.

Ketika ia masih menempuh pendidikan, ia muncul dalam serial televisi BBC Back-Up dan House of America. Ia kembali ke Cardiff untuk berakting dalam bahasanya sendiri dalam film Wales Bydd yn Wrol (Be Brave),[5] di mana ia mendapatkan penghargaan aktor terbaik di BAFTA Cymru (BAFTA Wales).
